Oliver Glasner has been touted as a potential next Liverpool manager should Arne Slot be sacked.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is one of the names who has been touted as a potential replacement for struggling Liverpool boss Arne Slot should the Dutchman lose his job in the coming weeks.

It’s been a dire couple of months for the Reds, who had been hoping to defend their Premier League title this season. Liverpool have slipped to 12th in the division after 12 matches and are already 11 points behind Arsenal.

The Merseyside outfit were thrashed 3-0 at Anfield by Nottingham Forest last weekend before then losing 4-1 at home in the Champions League on Wednesday. Liverpool chiefs were reported to have an emergency meeting on Thursday - but Slot remains in his position for now.

Several potential replacements are beginning to be linked across the media and one name that is cropping up at the top of those lists is Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner. The Austrian is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

Sky Sports Austria journalist Marc Janko has this week said that Glasner ‘may receive a call soon’ and advised the coach to keep an eye on his phone amid the turmoil at Anfield.

Crystal Palace would no doubt love the manager to stay given his success in south London but Glasner has been outspoken about a lack of financial backing and frustration over losing top players.

Crystal Palace boss admirer of Reds spending

Perhaps worryingly for Eagles supporters, the ability to invest at Liverpool is something that Glasner admires. Speaking this summer, the Crystal Palace manager said: “Liverpool have obviously invested heavily this year with Florian Wirz, Hugo Ekitike, Frimpong and Kerkez. I don’t know if they’ll bring in Isak now too.

“They’ve been playing at this level for years, so I have to say I was a bit surprised that they were so active, but of course it also shows their ambitions.

“I think you can always clearly see a club’s ambitions in the transfer market. And it seems that Liverpool FC isn’t satisfied with just winning the English league; I think they want to win the Champions League. And they obviously saw that we needed to add one or two things to the squad, and they made that very clear and explicit early on this summer.”

Glasner is a man that Liverpool boss Slot will already be fearful of. Crystal Palace beat the Reds in the Community Shield this summer and have since picked up wins in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

The Eagles boss appeared to suggest that Slot’s predictability could be his downfall. Prior to facing off in the Premier League, he said: “On the other side, this is what I like: Arne Slot, just a great manager with a clear structure, so it makes it sometimes easier to analyse when there’s a clear idea how they play. So we can prepare the team exactly how they will attack, how they will defend, what they are doing in set plays. I think all of that helps.”
