Manchester United could see their move for Elliot Anderson hijacked by fierce rivals Manchester City.
According to Craig Hope at the Daily Mail,, Pep Guardiola's side will prioritise a deal to sign the Nottingham Forest star in 2026 as they look to bolster their midfield options.
It's understood that Forest will command a fee in the region of £80-£100million, meaning that the England international will be a significant outlay.
While Sean Dyche's side are reluctant to lose the player in January, a deal could be struck before the Three Lions embark on their 2026 World Cup adventure next summer.
It is a huge blow to the Red Devils who had listed Anderson as their number one transfer target for next year.
Described as 'elite', the midfielder has enjoyed quite a trajectory over the last 12 months.
