Ahead of our Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, Eberechi Eze spoke to the UCL Magazine Show about what it means to him to represent The Arsenal and what he hopes to achieve with us.
Ebere grew up an Arsenal fan, and despite having success with Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace earlier in his career, the England midfielder always had his sights set on Arsenal.
“Something that I’ve wanted since I started playing professional football has always been to play for Arsenal.
“It was a bit of a whirlwind when it happened, maybe relief at the start, was the first feeling, so to come and to be part of it and to add to it is, yeah, it’s a big blessing.”
As if Ebere wasn’t already sold on the idea of joining us this summer, once he spoke to Mikel Arteta he knew Arsenal was the right place for him to be.
“From the first time I spoke to him, I knew what type of guy he was. You can see the energy, you can see the enthusiasm and drive to want to be better and to improve and to win; it’s infectious.
“The environment that has been created is very special, and it’s something that I’ve wanted and something that I have totally bought into.”
As well as signing for his boyhood club, our no.10 achieved another of his dreams just weeks into his Arsenal career, when he made his Champions League debut.
Playing in the competition isn’t where Ebere’s ambition stops however, as he feels we can go all the way in Europe this season.
“To be playing in it is one thing, and I’m grateful for this. But I’m not just happy to be here, I want to win the competition.
“It’s special to be here as someone that loves Arsenal, but I’ve got a long way to go, there’s a lot of work to be done, there’s a lot of things to achieve and this is more what I’m focused on.
“I’ve been brought into the club to be myself and I'm a creative guy, I’m an instinctual player. I want to do whatever it takes to win for my team.”
