Tottenham Hotspur have looked fragile defensively in recent fixtures. They have conceded 11 goals in last three games, including four against Arsenal and five against Paris Saint-Germain.
It is well-documented Spurs are struggling defensively at the moment. Cristian Romero has been showing indifferent form and was at mistake for two of Tottenham’s five goals at Parc des Princes. It is his and Micky van de Ven’s solid partnership at the base that saw Spurs shut out quality opponents and win several games away from home at the start of the season.
Beyond Romero and Van de Ven, Tottenham have Kevin Danso as the only backup option. Radu Dragusin is on the comeback trail from an ACL injury, while veteran Ben Davies hasn’t played so far this season and is out of contract in June 2026.

Tottenham are making plans behind the scenes for the January transfer window in an attempt to stop the rut. Attacking reinforcements are the need of the hour and will be prioritised when the transfer window reopens on January 1. But, given the lack of depth in the defensive department, the club bosses are seemingly also eyeing fresh talent at the back.
According to Caught Offside’s Daily Briefing exclusive, Tottenham are among several European clubs impressed by the performances of Jeremy Jacquet at Rennes. Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace are other Premier League clubs keen, while Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig are also keeping tabs on the defender’s progress.
A youth product of the Rennes academy, Jeremy Jacquet is considered one of the most promising young defenders in Ligue 1. He has been on a steady rise over the past few years. This season, the France Under-21 international has been a regular fixture, not missing a single minute across 13 Ligue 1 games.
Given his talent and high potential, Rennes are resigned to losing Jacquet in the near future. The report adds that the 20-year-old will be available for a low asking price in the region of €30-40m, and spending that amount should generally not be a problem for the aforementioned clubs.

Jacquet will have plenty of options to choose from when he decides his next destination. Tottenham’s interest in Jacquet isn’t surprising, given they’ve invested heavily in highly-regarded young talents in recent years. The Frenchman could become the face of the Lilywhites’ project, potentially replacing Romero in the future if he arrives.
However, it will be difficult for Spurs to lure him away from Rennes considering the number of clubs interested in the young defender. The player’s price tag should be in the region of €30-40m, which is a figure well within reach for the interested parties. Eventually, it could come down to the most attractive sporting project that Jacquet picks as his next destination.
