Alan Shearer has'no confidence'in West Ham vs Liverpool prediction amid Reds slump

Alan Shearer is backing Liverpool to claim its first Premier League points on the road in two and a half months when the Reds face West Ham on Sunday.

Liverpool has lost every away game that it has played in the top flight since a 1-0 victory away to Burnley on September 14 – a run that has included losses to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Brentford and Manchester City.

The Reds' poor results have not only come away from home of late, with Arne Slot's men currently on a run that has seen them lose nine of the last 12 games in all competitions.

Liverpool travels to West Ham on Sunday looking for a win that would boost their hopes of Champions League qualification, and Shearer is backing the Reds to win – although he is not feeling overly confident with his prediction.

"I haven’t got a clue what to expect from Liverpool," Shearer said to Metro. "Well, I should do, actually, because they’re going to concede goals, and the worrying thing is the manner of their defeats. It gives me no confidence to say that they could go to West Ham and win.

"West Ham went 2-0 up at Bournemouth, threw the two-goal lead away, they got a point in the end, but they got battered in the second half at Bournemouth. I’m not confident, but I’ll go for Liverpool away a win."

Just 11 months ago, Slot's players rocked up in East London and scored five times without reply to underline their title credentials, with Mohamed Salah netting his 20th goal of a remarkable individual season.

And when this season's fixture list came out, a trip to the London Stadium might have looked like a banker, given how uninspired the Hammers had looked under Graham Potter.

Nuno Espirito Santo

However, while Liverpool's form has nosedived, West Ham looks revitalized under Nuno Espirito Santo, who replaced Potter in September.

West Ham has taken seven points from its last three games – which is more than Liverpool has managed in its last eight games – and Nuno's players will go into Sunday's game full of confidence that they can build on their good recent form.

The Hammers have scored six goals in their last two home games, which will worry Liverpool supporters who have seen their team concede a truck load of goals since the start of the campaign.
