Three reasons West Ham can be the ideal opponent for Liverpool's new-look attack to finally start firing - opinion

Liverpool are having real problems scoring goals this season, with their expensive forward line failing to get going at all.

Alexander Isak has been at the centre of the troubles after scoring only once in his first 10 appearances for the Reds.

The Swede is still without a Premier League goal heading into matchday 13 of the season and his form is beginning to cause concern for supporters.

Will Liverpool get back to winning ways against the Hammers?

Mohamed Salah is also struggling to find his spark. The Liverpool legend has only five goals in 18 appearances this term.

With Hugo Ekitike set to be sidelined, Isak and Salah will carry the goal-scoring burden as Liverpool travel to face West Ham United on Sunday. But despite their lean returns, the two forwards will be fancying their chances against the Hammers.

Alexander Isak loves playing against West Ham

Liverpool might be ruing their luck a little to be facing West Ham exactly when they are coming into some form under Nuno Espirito Santo, but the Hammers can still be an ideal opposition on Sunday.

One of the reasons for that is because Isak has been especially prolific against them in the past.

As Liverpoolfc.com point out, the £120m man has scored five goals and registered one assist in five Premier League appearances against West Ham.

The one caveat is that the only team Isak has more against is Nottingham Forest, and he was anonymous against them last week. But if he can tap into the memory of downing the Hammers on Sunday, he could finally start to repay that transfer fee.

Mohamed Salah also can’t stop scoring against the Hammers

If Isak’s record against West Ham is encouraging, then Salah’s inspires hope that the pair are both destined to score on Sunday.

The Egyptian is the all-time top scorer in this fixture across all competitions with 13 goals in 18 appearances.

West Ham are Salah’s third favourite opposition to play against for Liverpool, having only scored more against Tottenham and Man United.

Faced with their favourite claret and blue, hopefully Salah and Isak can finally begin to build some kind of partnership on the pitch.

Liverpool always score plenty at West Ham

Though Salah and Isak’s individual records against the Hammers are excellent, perhaps the clearest clue that goals are set to flow on Sunday is Liverpool’s collective record against the East London side.

The Reds have scored in a club-record 17 consecutive matches against West Ham and have found the net in all nine of their visits to the London Stadium.

Amazingly, Liverpool have scored 25 goals in those nine matches, with five coming during last year’s game.

In short, if there is one opponent who could be tailor-made for Liverpool to find their shooting boots against both individually and collectively, it should be West Ham.
