Joe Mazzulla Gets Real On What It Means To Play For Celtics

The Boston Celtics are on a roll right now, as they have won five of their past six games, with their latest victory seeing them snap the Detroit Pistons’ 13-game win streak. While the players on the court deserve their fair share of praise, head coach Joe Mazzulla is also pushing all the right buttons from the bench. It was very clear entering the season that this was going to be the biggest challenge of Mazzulla’s young career with the C’s. The team no longer had Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, Al Horford and Luke Kornet at its disposal, and Jayson Tatum is also going to spend much of the year recovering from a torn Achilles. That has presented opportunities for other players to step up and show that they can be a part of the team’s future. In Mazzulla’s eyes, though, there’s a little bit more on the line because of the franchise they are suiting up for. “Anytime you get to wear the Celtics logo and play in TD Garden and be a part of this city, it’s something that you can’t take for granted,” Mazzulla said on “Beneath the Banners.” Ever since taking over as Boston’s head coach, Mazzulla has made it clear he knows just how important it is for his teams to be successful. Part of accomplishing that goal involves making the players taking the court for him aware of what it means to suit up for the Celtics. Story continues below advertisement After a bit of a slow start, the C’s appear to be finding their identity. They will look to continue their winning ways when they go up against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
