"I don’t even have five defenders": Slot hints at team news ahead of West Ham

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has insisted that he cannot make many changes against West Ham United on Sunday as he does not have enough players available.

The London Stadium could be the staging ground for Slot's final ever game in charge of the Merseysiders, who could end matchweek 12 of the Premier League in 14th place.

Given the Reds have been defeated in nine of their last 12 games, there have been calls from fans fpr the head coach to make drastic changes to the team.

Supporters may be disappointed on Sunday as Slot has claimed he does not have enough players available to make many changes, telling reporters: "I don’t know what is in your head but if, for example, you want another system with five defenders that could be an issue. I don’t even have five defenders.

"The system we are playing now suits the players best. They have played this system probably throughout their whole career and there is hardly any training time for us. So it is almost impossible to change our complete idea about football if we play every two days.

"I think we have played a lot of different lineups for reasons I prefer not to do because everyone was not available. We have used our whole squad constantly."

Slot has used Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai as his team's right-back in their last two games due to the injuries to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.

What changes can Arne Slot make against West Ham?

There are limited changes that Slot can make in the backline given both first-choice right-backs are injured, while fourth-choice centre-back Giovanni Leoni is set to miss the rest of the campaign.

However, third-choice centre-back Joe Gomez is fit, and he could be selected to start on the right side of the team's back four given he has played in that position on numerous occasions.

Starting Gomez would also allow Slot to select Jones, Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch together, arguably the club's three best duellists in midfield.

Up front, Hugo Ekitike is a doubt due to a back injury, so fans should expect to see Alexander Isak starting as a striker.

Will Liverpool beat West Ham United in the Premier League?

Having lost six of their last seven Premier League games, it would not be surprising if the Reds suffered yet another defeat.

West Ham come into the clash unbeaten in three league matches, winning twice while netting on eight occasions.

It should be noted that the Merseysiders have scored just seven times from 12.6 xG in their past seven top-flight outings, so perhaps more luck in front of goal could see them prevail.

Liverpool have won just once this season when they have conceded the first goal, and if they concede first on Sunday, then their chances of victory may be slim.
