Liverpool could show Arne Slot the exit door if results don’t improve in the next two to three matches.
That’s according to former Netherlands international Wim Kieft, and he mentions this in his column for De Telegraaf. This isn’t the first negative reporting from the Dutch media, who are usually very supportive of Slot.
Liverpool started the season on a brighter note, winning their first five matches in a row. Since then, they have lost six of their last seven league matches.
The Reds have just three wins in their last 12 matches in all competitions. This includes consecutive defeats at Anfield against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and a 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Liverpool spent heavily to reshape their squad last summer. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitiké were the big signings that arrived at the Merseyside club. They have been disappointing so far.
Kieft claims the English champions took a risk by spending big on both Wirtz and Ekitiké.
“By signing Wirtz and Ekitiké for €137m and €80m respectively, Liverpool took a costly risk. The midfielder and striker possess quality. Nevertheless, this offers no guarantee that they can compete in English football. Success in the Premier League often requires more,” he said.
The Dutchman has also criticised Liverpool star duo Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s poor performances this season.
“After difficult and lengthy negotiations, everyone in Liverpool was delighted with the signings of captain Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the two mainstays of last season’s success. However, they are unrecognisable,” Kieft explained.
“The defence with Van Dijk concedes an awful lot of goals. Salah’s performance is minimal. But surely those two haven’t suddenly forgotten their skills?”
Liverpool manager needs quick change
Aren Slot
FRANKFURT, GERMANY – 22 OCTOBER, 2025: Arne Slot – UEFA Champions League. SG Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool FC at Deutsche Bank Park.
He warns Slot that his job could be in danger if Liverpool fail to beat West Ham United, Sunderland and Leeds United.
“All in all, Liverpool’s performances against Nottingham Forest and PSV were staggering. There are no clues to halt the decline. Even the magical Arne Slot can’t turn this around overnight. He can’t conjure up goals. And what no one thought possible could easily happen: Slot being fired after two or three more poor results,” he added.
Sky Austria have pushed Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner to Liverpool.
