Liverpool are said to be among the top clubs to have sent scouts to watch a “very exciting” young midfielder, eyeing him up an eye-catching option.

It feels as though the time has come for the Reds to genuinely find an eventual replacement for certain players, including Mohamed Salah, given his age and his dropoff in form this season.

That’s not to say that the Liverpool legend is finished – far from it – but at 33 years of age, his very best days look to be behind him, and he has less than two years remaining on his current deal.

It will be fascinating to see who the Reds look to bring in to succeed Salah and others, and according to a new update from Sport Bild, they are scouting RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, seeing him as an exciting option.

They are far from the only club in the mix to snap up the 19-year-old, though, with Barcelona and Arsenal also mentioned in the report, highlighting his potential.

Diomande a huge prospect with a big future

It is easy to see why Liverpool are eyeing a move for Ouedraogo, with the Ivorian already becoming a key attacking figure for Leipzig at a young age, and midfielders needing to be looked at, especially with Alexis Mac Allister struggling for form.

The German has bagged three goals and assists apiece in eight Bundesliga starts this season, while journalist Bence Bocsak hailing his ability earlier this month, saying:

“Was at the U17 Euros earlier this year and watched a lot of Assan Ouedraogo. Today he made his senior debut for Schalke and scored his first goal. 1.92 metres tall and comfortable on the ball. No one attempted more dribbles (7) than him in today’s game despite only playing 61 minutes. He is now the youngest player and the youngest goalscorer for Schalke since 1962. A very exciting midfield prospect. Only just turned 17 years old back in May. The future of German football.”

Ouedraogo’s current Leipzig deal runs until the summer of 2029, so Liverpool won’t be able to snap him up on the cheap, but given his long-term potential, he could be worth every penny.
