Arne Slot can forget shackling West Ham danger man unless he makes one key change to Liverpool XI - opinion

Liverpool travel to the London Stadium for a Premier League meeting with West Ham United on Sunday.

The Reds head into the fixture having lost six of their previous seven league ties, and nine in 12 across all competitions.

Despite West Ham sitting just above the relegation zone, this weekend’s meeting is expected to be close, with pundits split over Liverpool’s chances of winning.

Jarrod Bowen record vs Liverpool

Jarrod Bowen has three goals and one assist in the Premier League for a previously out-of-form Hammers this season.

The East London outfit’s form has picked up in recent weeks thanks to Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival, and history suggests Bowen is going to be their biggest threat on November 30.

In previous meetings, the England international has scored three and provided three assists against the Merseyside outfit.

Arsenal (seven) are the only ‘top six’ team that Bowen has provided more goal contributions against during his career so far.

So, with Liverpool’s backline already floundering this season, 20 conceded in 12, it is imperative that Slot has a plan in place to stop the 28-year-old tormenting his team once more.

Danger man

Arne Slot must start Andy Robertson over Milos Kerkez

While he is a versatile forward who can play all across the frontline, Bowen generally starts the bulk of his games on the right wing.

In turn, he will be going head-to-head with whichever left-back Slot decides to start on Sunday.

Milos Kerkez has played the last couple of fixtures in that position, but he has been weak defensively this season.

Alan Pardew has criticised Kerkez, while Liverpool’s manager has also commented on the Hungarian’s struggles.

He was slightly improved against PSV when allowed more freedom to roam forward.

But this is simply a must-win fixture for Slot, and he can’t really afford to gamble on the summer signing shoring up the defensive side of his game for the first time in 2025/26.

So, it seems pretty clear that the much more experienced Andy Robertson will have to start the match if Liverpool are to have any chance of stopping Bowen.
