Pope and Gordon out? Newcastle United XI v Everton as Eddie Howe predicted to make three changes

Newcastle United team news v Everton

Everton v Newcastle United: Eddie Howe will name his starting XI for today’s clash with Everton at 4:15pm - but will he make many changes?

Newcastle United make the trip to the Hill Dickinson for the first time ever this evening to take on Everton in the Premier League.

The Magpies returned to winning ways in the league last weekend with a victory over Manchester City on Saturday, but were beaten again on the road in midweek against Marseille. Newcastle United have won just once away from home all season and are without a win in the Premier League since April.

The Toffees defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford on their last outing, despite going down to ten men in the first half after Idrissa Gueye’s red card. Everton have proven to be somewhat of a bogey team for Eddie Howe in recent seasons and United’s head coach has a number of decisions to make when he names his team this afternoon.

Will he pick Aaron Ramsdale ahead of Nick Pope after his mistake in midweek? Will Anthony Gordon retain his place in the starting XI?

Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name this evening. Do you agree with our picks? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.

Newcastle United predicted XI v Everton

Aaron Ramsdale

There has been a lot of debate on whether Howe should pick Nick Pope or Ramsdale this evening. Pope’s errors on Tuesday night may force Howe into changing his goalkeeper.

Tino Livramento

Livramento’s fitness will need to be taken into account, but if he is deemed fit enough to start, then surely he must play? The Magpies looked a much better team, particularly in attack, with the former Saints man back at right-back.

Malick Thiaw

Thiaw has been very good in recent weeks and was sensational against Erling Haaland last weekend.

Fabian Schar

Schar and Thiaw were brilliant against Manchester City and interrupting their partnership could be a costly error.

Lewis Hall

Hall’s return to the starting XI last weekend was a breath of fresh air and allowed Howe’s side to play on the front-foot. He will be vital again today.

Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United need to end their dire record away from home. Guimaraes must put in another captain’s performance this evening if they want to finally secure a win on the road.

Sandro Tonali

Everton’s midfield could be depleted by injury at the weekend - giving Tonali the perfect platform to star and repeat the brilliant performance he put in against Manchester City.

Joelinton

Joelinton didn’t feature at all in France in midweek. He should be fully rested ahead of this weekend’s trip to Merseyside and will have a key role to play if Newcastle United want to impose their game onto their hosts.

Jacob Murphy

Whilst Murphy didn’t enjoy his best night in Marseille, Anthony Elanga has yet to show why he should displace the former Norwich City man in the starting XI.

Nick Woltemade

Woltemade was handed a much needed rest in midweek, but is almost certain to return to the starting XI if deemed fit enough to feature by Howe.

Harvey Barnes

Barnes has scored four goals in his last three matches in all competitions - the only Magpies man to score in that time. His form demands his place in Howe’s starting XI, even at the potential expense of Gordon.
