Dominik Szoboszlai at risk of missing Liverpool’s visit to Sunderland on Wednesday

The Hungarian will be treading carefully at the London Stadium this weekend.

Liverpool head to West Ham on Sunday afternoon hoping to somehow find a way out of their historically bad run of form at the minute.

The Reds haven’t seen this level of misfortune on the pitch since 1953, and Arne Slot will be desperately urging the leaders and star players in his team to step up now.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been a standout performer throughout this torrid period, playing the full ninety minutes in 17 of the 19 games played so far this season.

The form, versatility and work ethic has not gone unnoticed as he has already picked up a Standard Chartered Player of the Month Award this season.

He is a player that Arne Slot would sorely miss if he was to miss a game for Liverpool.

Here is where a problem emerges.

If Liverpool’s No.8 was to pick up a yellow card against West Ham on Sunday, he would then be suspended for Liverpool’s trip to Sunderland next week.

The Hungarian international escaped a yellow card against Nottingham Forest, but has previously been cautioned four times this season against Everton, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Man City.

Premier League rules state that any player who earns five bookings from their side’s first nineteen league matches of a season will have to serve a one match ban in the same competition.

Players who accumulate ten yellow cards up to and including their side’s 32nd fixture will serve a two-match suspension in the competition.

Szoboszlai would be wise to avoid getting in to the referee’ book on Sunday, as he will know how much Arne Slot will be relying on him right now.

The Liverpool midfielder can most definitely be a player to steer Liverpool out of this run of form and on to a more positive path.
