Leeds United 1 Aston Villa 2: Lee Sobot's YEP video verdict
Leeds United team news is in for this afternoon’s huge Premier League test at title-chasing Manchester City.
Whites boss Daniel Farke has named his Leeds United team for this afternoon’s huge Premier League test at title-chasing Manchester City which features attacking stars returning and a Whites league debut.
Farke revealed at Thursday’s pre-match press conference that regular starter Sean Longstaff had suffered a calf injury in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa and was facing four to six weeks out.
That meant a double blow for Farke and his midfield following Anton Stach’s withdrawal against Villa after the German suffered a blow to the head after challenging keeper Emi Martinez for Lukas Nmecha’s goal.
Stach attempted to play on but was eventually taken off and the German must now miss Saturday’s trip to the Etihad due to concussion protocols.
As expected, Stach and Longstaff are replaced by Ilia Gruev and Ao Tanaka in the middle of the park but Farke has also changed both wing positions and also handed full-back James Justin
Willy Gnonto bagged his first minutes since September from the bench in last weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa after recovering from calf issues and then minor hernia surgery.
Belgian international defender Sebastiaan Bornauw was a doubt for today’s contest having missed training this week due to MCL problems.
Leeds United vs Manchester City: Perri; Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Justin; Ampadu, Gruev, Tanaka; James, Gnonto, Nmecha. Subs: Meslier, Byram, Gudmundsson, Bijol, Harrison, Aaronson, Okafor, Piroe, Calvert-Lewin.
