Liverpool travel to East London for a Premier League meeting with West Ham United on Sunday.
Prior to the fixture, Mohamed Salah’s form for the Reds in 2025/26 has been a key talking point.
Emile Heskey thinks Salah has had issues at Liverpool for some time, but they have been masked by the number of goals he scores.

In the 2025/26 campaign, the Egyptian’s goal contributions have dried up. But there is one change Arne Slot could make against West Ham to fix that issue.

Why has Mohamed Salah stopped scoring for Liverpool
Wayne Rooney has called out Salah for not working hard enough for Liverpool this season.
However, the stats show that he is actually covering more ground than last year.
In 2024/25, he covered a distance of 112.2km during the first 12 Premier League gameweeks of the season.

In 2025/26, meanwhile, he has covered 116.4km.
But it’s worth noting that the number of sprints Salah has completed (195 vs 174) has declined over the same period.
Why is that the case? Well, the obvious answer is that the winger is being asked to track back a lot more than he has done in previous campaigns.
This is making him less impactful when he does get into attacking positions and goes a long way to explaining why Salah’s goal contributions have declined significantly.

Mohamed Salah message to Arne Slot
There’s no denying Liverpool’s right-back area is a problem this season, but even with Salah tracking back, they are still woeful defensively (20 conceded in 12 league games).
So, it would make a lot more sense if Slot simply let the 33-year-old stay forward so he can provide much more of a threat in the final third.
That is what happened in 2024/25, as Salah explained in April, right after Liverpool won the title.
Speaking live on Sky Sports following the Tottenham clash, he said: “I told him [Slot] ‘as long as you rest me defensively, I will provide offensively’.
“Try to rest me as much as I can, then I will show you the numbers. So I’m glad that I did.”
