Eddie Howe makes big calls on Pope, Tonali and Gordon for Newcastle's game at Everton

Nick Pope, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon are all absent from Newcastle's starting XI, with Howe making five changes to the side that started Tuesday's Champions League defeat in Marseille.

Pope is one of the players who drops out having started in the Stade Velodrome, with the goalkeeper, who was badly at fault for Marseille's first goal, not in the squad at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Aaron Ramsdale comes into the side to make his first Premier League start for Newcastle, with John Ruddy on the bench.

Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall fill the full-back berths for Newcastle, with Malick Thiaw partnering Dan Burn at centre-half.

Tonali drops out of the midfield three, with Lewis Miley joining Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in the starting side.

Nick Woltemade returns to the starting XI, having been a substitute in Marseille, and play between Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga, who are preferred to Gordon and Jacob Murphy.
