Manchester United believe that they are securing the “new Moisés Caicedo” in youngster Cristian Camilo Orozco.
[That’s according to El Diario.](https://www.eldiario.ec/deportes/el-manchester-united-busca-en-sudamerica-al-joven-mediocampista-que-podria-ser-el-nuevo-moises-caicedo-28112025/) They cover the player today and how Manchester United have secured him for just $1m.
A report earlier this month stated Manchester United had snapped up Orozco after his impressive performances at the U17 World Cup. That article described him [as the “leader of a new generation”](https://sportwitness.co.uk/leader-of-a-new-generation-midfield-gem-on-way-to-manchester-united/) in Colombia.
That deal is now down, with reports yesterday showing Orozco travelling to England with Manchester United head scout Giuseppe Antonaccio. Those reports made it clear the deal for the 17-year-old is worth €1m.
El Diario back that up after speaking to ‘sources close to his environment’. They also confirm that Orozco can only be officially signed from July 2026. That’s when he turns 18 and FIFA can authorise his registration.
They say the signing has been done because Manchester United continue to scout the South American market for talent. Their ‘fixed idea’ is to avoid repeating their mistake of not signing Moises Caicedo.
Orozco caught their attention after shining in youth teams and in ‘their training process in Colombia’. The young midfielder currently plays for Fortaleza CEIF, a Colombian first division team. He is yet to make his first team debut, though.
Manchester United believe his potential is similar to that of Caicedo. In fact, they believe he could be the “new Moisés Caicedo”. They see him as a modern pivot, who can recover the ball aggressively, provide precise long passes and who has ‘uncommon emotional maturity’ for a 17-year-old.
He is not a “hard” midfielder like Casemiro, but more in the modern style of the Chelsea star. And that is why they have not hesitated to pay €1m for him now and wrap up a deal quickly.
