'There is recognition...' - Journalist shares Arne Slot sack update ahead of Liverpool v West…

Liverpool are calm over Arne Slot’s future internally, as they feel the Dutchman is dealing with a ‘perfect storm’ of issues at the club, journalist Jonathan Northcroft has revealed.

The reigning Premier League champions have endured a disappointing run of results, losing nine of their last 12 games across all competitions, but that has not necessarily put Slot’s position in danger.

Northcroft says there is ‘internal calm’ within Liverpool about the Dutchman, as the club feel performances have been better than results recently, while several ‘complex issues’ have also been taken into consideration.

Liverpool are 12th in the Premier League ahead of their visit to West Ham on Sunday, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Liverpool 'Calm' Over Arne Slot

According to Northcroft, one senior Liverpool figure believes the club could still finish anywhere between first and fifth this season despite their disappointing start:

“There is internal calm about Slot’s recent travails. Performances have been better than results and there is recognition that Slot is dealing with a “perfect storm” of complex issues caused by everything from the loss of Diogo Jota to a temporary (it’s felt) shift in how football is played.

“Where will Liverpool finish? Anywhere from first to fifth is one senior figure’s view.”

Northcroft also added that Liverpool view Slot as ‘exactly the same person’ as when they appointed him as Jurgen Klopp’s successor 18 months ago:

“The belief in Slot is logical, evidential. He is seen as exactly the same person who, only seven months ago, brought Liverpool their second league title in 35 years and the now-famous 60-page dossier Hughes compiled on Slot when appointing him as Klopp’s successor outlined three “backbones” of his management.”

Liverpool’s 4-1 loss to PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday meant the Reds have suffered nine defeats in 12 games for the first time since the 1953-54 season, which culminated in relegation from the First Division.

The Reds have also lost three successive games by three goals or more for the first time since December 1953, having also fallen to heavy defeats against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

Slot’s side have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League this term, conceding 20 goals in their first 12 games. Only Bournemouth, Leeds, West Ham, Burnley and Wolves have conceded more.

Amid their defensive struggles, Real Madrid have informed Liverpool they will not be pursuing a move for Ibrahima Konate next year.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital ever since he entered the final year of his contract at Anfield, which expires in June.
