Graham Smyth's Leeds United player ratings vs Man City with 'big impact' 9/10 but one 4

Leeds United put in a spirited second-half performance at Manchester City to fight back from two goals down before eventually losing 3-2 on Saturday.

The Whites got off to the worst possible start when Phil Foden scored inside the first minute, his effort from 10 yards crashing in off the crossbar after Matheus Nunes got in behind Willy Gnonto to cross. City doubled their lead on 25 minutes when defender Josko Gvardiol poked in from close range after Lucas Perri was unable to punch clear a corner.

Farke made three changes at half-time and was instantly rewarded, with substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalising on a poor Nunes touch to pull one back for Leeds. Lukas Nmecha then scored a rebound from his own saved penalty to make it 2-2 on 68 minutes, following a foul from Gvardiol on Calvert-Lewin.

Leeds continued to cause their hosts problems with a more direct approach but as full-time edged closer, City regained control and pinned their visitors back. Foden eventually won it late on with his second of the game, working space on the edge of the box before striking beyond Perri.

YEP chief football writer Graham Smyth was at the Etihad to watch that performance. Here are his Leeds United player ratings...

7 - Blameless for the first. Got himself pinned on his line by Silva and then couldn't punch clear for the second goal. Foden had too much space and shot through a crowd for the third. Some good kicking. A few good saves.
