The Dutchman has his work cut out for him right now at Liverpool.
Arne Slot achieved the unthinkable last season, stepping into the shadow of Jurgen Klop expertly well, dispelling the darkness and winning the Premier League in his first season at Liverpool.
A feat that can never be under-appreciated, as it marked just the second title in 35 years for the Reds.
However, due to reaching such heights last season, he has set understandably high expectations and now finds himself in a very different position.
Sitting in 12th place and experiencing their worst run of form since 1953, Arne Slot will now have to show what he has done in the past and oversee a period of significant transition.
He has faced questions about his position at Liverpool in recent weeks, a situation he would never have dreamed of when he stepped into his second season in charge.
However, despite the noise and criticism from outside, the hierarchies within Liverpool Football Club remain committed to Arne Slot and his plan.
Richard Hughes was a big part of pinpointing Arne Slot as an ideal candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp, as the Dutch manager possesses one characteristic that is arguably keeping him in the job right now.
The Times have lifted the lid on what that is, highlighting Arne Slot’s ability to cope with immense change.
At Feyernoord, Arne Slot’s side averaged ten signings and ten departures per season during his tenure, showcasing his skills in maintaining success while managing change.
The article reads: “When Edwards and Hughes assumed their present roles in early 2024, a rebuild was on the horizon.”
“They waited initially to assess the market and the squad but knowing churn was coming was among the motivations for hiring Slot.”
“His record of managing throughout upheaval is a reason for retaining confidence now.”
That makes a great deal of sense, as Slot initially achieved success with an inherited team, but he has now had to cope with a significant number of departures, as well as incomings totaling £450m.
Numbers that high were always bound to invite unwanted pressure, but Arne Slot has shown ability in the past to get through such transitional periods.
He will now have to replicate that at Liverpool as criticism builds.
But for the time-being, his job at Liverpool appears to be safe.
