Newcastle United won their first away game since April with a top notch display at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to stun Everton.

The big change to the starting line-up was the inclusion of Aaron Ramsdale with Nick Pope described as nursing a "groin injury" by United chiefs.

In a rampant first half, Malick Thiaw flicked home a header to stun Everton after 55 seconds. It was then 2-0 on 25 minutes when Everton could not clear their lines and Dan Burn's flick found Lewis Miley who drove home via a Jordan Pickford clanger.

Newcastle then went even further ahead when Anthony Elanga whipped the ball in for Nick Woltemade to clip it over Pickford just before the break. It was 4-0 on 57 minutes when Thiaw powered a header home after Lewis Hall's cross.

The Toffees were on the scoresheet when James Tarkowski floated the ball into the box and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall applied the finish to pull one back.

Here's how the Newcastle players did at Everton:

Aaron Ramsdale 9

Brought confidence to the defensive rearguard with a top notch save to deny Garner. Fantastic distribution all round.

Tino Livramento 9

A powerful presence down the right-hand side and a hand in a couple of goals. The Magpies are a different team with him in it.

Malick Thiaw 10

Comfortably cleared the lines for Newcastle. But his offensive contributions would have left an accomplished striker satisfied. Rose like like Shearer twice.

Dan Burn 8

Looked much more at home in the middle. A hard working shift with an assist thrown in.

Lewis Hall 9

Oozed class down the left. And what about that cross for Thiaw's second?

Bruno Guimaraes 8

Some timely interceptions and challenges to keep Newcastle ticking over.

Joelinton 7

Not his brilliant best but laid foundations for the win with work-rate.

Lewis Miley 9

Has given Howe a genuine dilemma here. An assist and a goal and you've got to stand up and take notice.

Harvey Barnes 8

Caused his fair share of problems to keep Everton on the back-foot.

Anthony Elanga 8

Probably his best game yet for Newcastle. Caused problems from the first minute and grabbed an assist.

Nick Woltemade 9

That chipped effort over Pickford will live long in the memory.

Subs

Jacob Ramsey (for Barnes 71)

Joe Willock (for Elanga 71)

Sandro Tonali (for Bruno 90)

Fabian Schar (for Hall 90)

Anthony Gordon (for Woltemade 90)

*Subs must play 15 munutes to gain a mark.
