Everton suffered a 4-1 loss against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Paul Robinson believes Everton were masters of their own downfall as they were thrashed by Newcastle United.
The Toffees suffered a resounding 4-1 loss against the Magpies at Hill Dickinson Stadium. David Moyes’ side had the chance to secure three successive Premier League victories. Yet those hopes had evaporated by half-time as Everton found themselves three goals behind. Malick Thiaw opened the scoring after 53 seconds before Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade increased Newcastle’s lead.
Thiaw had his second of the game on 58 minutes and while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored a fine consolation goal for Everton, it was nowhere near enough. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson said: “Excellent away day for Newcastle and we haven't had many times to say that this season. He rung the changes Eddie Howe - he made six changes to the personnel before kick off - and the early goal certainly helped them but they managed the game from that point. They never looked in much danger - a really, really good performance.
“Everton performance will disappoint David Moyes defensively. The easiest way to sum it up is to say it was uncharacteristic. They caused most of their own problems and it was unlike them.”
Thierno Barry’s wait to break his Everton goal duckk continues. The striker, signed from Villarreal for up to £27 million in the summer transfer window, did have the ball in the back of the net at 4-0 but a VAR review deemed he’d committed handball.
Robinson claimed during the Newcastle game that Barry looked like he was ‘walking on glass’ as he struggled to make an impact. He said: “Barry's had very little involvement this game. His touches have been minimal but every time the ball's come near him it looks like he's about to fall over, looks like he's going to slip. I don't know what boots he has on but he looks like he's walking on glass.”
