Milwaukee Bucks superstar forwardGiannis Antetokounmpo added to his ever-growing basketball resume on Saturday, as he joined the 21,000-point club of the NBAduring a 116-99 win at Fiserve Forum against the Brooklyn Nets.
The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player needed 27 more points to hit the 21,000-point mark going into the Nets contest, and he made sure he’d eclipse that mark by scoring 29 points on a 12-for-15 shooting from the field. It was an easy victory for Milwaukee, which also snapped a seven-game losing skid, as the team made sure Antetokounmpo’s historic evening wouldn’t be wasted in a loss.

Facing reporters after the win, Antetokounmpo was asked for his thoughts on his big night, and his response sounded like one from a great Greek thinker.
“I think when I was younger, a couple years ago, I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s another day at the office. Let me just do my job, go back home.’ But as you get older, you start appreciating those moments, you don’t take it for granted,” Antetokounmpo said after the game (h/t Eric Nehm of The Athletic).
“Coach Doc came in and he told me that there’s only like 11, 12 players who have ever scored 21,000 points with one team through the history of the game and you’re like, ‘Wow.” Being a kid from Greece, from Sepolia, where I grew up in a small neighborhood that not a lot of, let’s say, great things happen there or come out of there, to be able to be on this stage and 13 years later to score 21,000 points,
I’m very appreciative. I’ve had a great support system by my side, my family, God by my side, they’ve guided me through my whole journey. I’m happy. I have a lot of things, a lot of chapters I want to keep on closing moving forward, so I just gotta stay locked in. Job is not done.”
Amid his latest achievement, Antetokounmpo showed that he’s still more about what needs to get done as a team than individual milestones.
“Now, you gotta start from the little things. You gotta win two games in a row. We have another one in two days and no matter what my goals are in five years, seven years, 10 years down the line, it doesn’t matter. We gotta survive,” Antetokounmpo continued.”
“On Monday, we gotta survive that game. Take it a game at a time. That’s what I’ve done my whole career, I never thought I’m going to be in this position in this chair for as many years as I’ve been. I don’t know what God has (in store) for me moving forward. I just gotta keep my head down, keep working hard, keep on being disciplined, keep on being available for my teammates and I know great things are going to happen because I put in the work. I don’t think there’s anybody more disciplined than me, so I know great things are ahead.”
Antetokounmpo and the Bucks will hit the road for their next game on Monday against the Washington Wizards before a tough assignment back home on Wednesday versus Cade Cunningham and the East-leading Detroit Pistons.
