The 78-year-old record Liverpool must avoid breaking against West Ham

Like last season, Liverpool are breaking records by the week, but this time around it is for the wrong reasons.

Nine defeats in their last 12 have left Liverpool fans fearing for their side when they travel to play West Ham in the Premier League.

The Reds have lost their last four consecutive away league matches. If that were to become five at the London Stadium, it would be the worst away run since January 2011 when they lost five in a row, four coming under Roy Hodgson.

The stats don’t make nice reading

The statistics don’t get any better either, the harder you look.

The defeat against PSV saw them lose three games in a row in all competitions by a margin of three or more goals for the first time since December 1953.

Not since February 1948, 78 years ago, has this happened in four consecutive matches.

Not since 2006/07 have Liverpool lost five of their opening seven away league games of a campaign. That season, under Rafa Benitez, they ended the season in third place in the league and reached the Champions League final – fingers crossed, Reds.

Arne Slot‘s side have won all six league games this season in which they have scored the opening goal of the game, but they have lost all six when conceding the first goal.

Liverpool have scored only two goals in the opening half hour of league games this season, both coming in the opening 29 minutes of the Merseyside derby victory in September.

They have failed to score in each of the last two league matches. Not since February 2023 have they gone three games without a goal.

A glance at West Ham

West Ham created some unwanted club history by losing their first four home league games of a season for the first time ever, strangely all against London clubs: Chelsea, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Brentford.

They then won their next two at home, defeating Newcastle 3-1 and Burnley 3-2, and are looking to win a third successive home league match in the same season for the first time since October 2022.

They have conceded 15 goals at home in the league this season. Only Wolves (16) have shipped more at home this season after 12 games.

The Hammers are unbeaten in their last three league matches. Not since December 2024 have they gone four undefeated in the top-flight. Eight of their 15 league goals this season have come in the last three outings.

They have kept one clean sheet during this campaign, coming in the 3-0 win at Forest back in August.
