What Michael Edwards and Arne Slot did last week amid rumours Liverpool boss could be sacked

Arne Slot is currently treading on very thin ice.

The Reds have been under the cosh as of late and results are really not going their way, with this putting a lot of pressure on Slot’s shoulders.

The Dutchman has lost nine of the last 12 games he has taken charge of, a run of form that has seen Liverpool slip into the bottom half of the table.

Will defeat to West Ham be the end of Arne Slot at Liverpool?

Many Liverpool fans believe he should have been sacked already, but he will be in charge for the Reds’ game against West Ham.

If they lose, he could be in big trouble, and he might know that too given what he and Michael Edwards did last week.

Michael Edwards and Arne Slot had a rare meeting

Slot really is in uncharted territory right now as last season, everything went to plan and there were no problems whatsoever.

But now, he faces a big challenge to turn things around, and fast, with Liverpool’s CEO of Football Edwards already meeting with him to discuss his future.

According to The Times journalist Jonathan Northcroft, Slot’s relationship with Edwards has remained unchanged, just like it has with Richard Hughes too.

Edwards, despite only visiting the training ground once or twice a month, reportedly met with Slot last week to discuss his future, with the meeting lasting 45 minutes.

Patience was said to be his ‘guiding principle,’ suggesting he will be given time to turn things around, even if Liverpool fans may disagree.

Arne Slot could be sacked if Liverpool lose to West Ham

Although the Liverpool hierarchy are willing to be patient with Slot, if they do lose to West Ham, then the manner of the defeat could be a telling sign.

If they lose by three goals for the third game in a row, then it is very likely the Dutchman could receive his P45, with this simply unacceptable.

However, a narrow defeat, although still not good enough, could see him stay in the job by the skin of his teeth, with this week pivotal.

After West Ham, Liverpool have Sunderland midweek and then Leeds United on Saturday, very tough fixtures that could prove to be Slot’s last.
