Liverpool senior figure still believes Premier League title can be won ahead of Arsenal - report

Liverpool 1-4 PSV: Match Review

Liverpool are currently 11 points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

A Liverpool senior figure believes that Liverpool could still win the Premier League title, according to reports.

The Reds head to West Ham United against the backdrop of losing nine of their past 12 matches in all competitions. Many feel their title defence is already over before December, with pressure mounting on head coach Arne Slot.

The Dutchman did little wrong in his maiden campaign after replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat, guiding Liverpool to a record-equalling English championship. Yet they trail Arsenal by 11 points after 12 fixtures played.

And according to The Times, a Liverpool chief reckons that a finish between first and fifth can still be achieved this season despite the wretched run of form.

Ahead of Liverpool’s clash against West Ham, Slot confirmed that he has held talks with the club’s hierarchy but talks have been the same as usual. He said: "We've had the same conversations that we've had since I got here. We fight on. We try to improve, but the conversations have been the same as they have been for the last one and a half years.

"There is a lot of pressure if you work or play at a top club. And then there is even more when you start losing more games than this club, players or the manager are used to. But there was pressure last season as well for us to win the league.

"But now it's a different kind of pressure because we have lost so many games. In the end, it's about doing what this club is about. Keep fighting no matter how difficult it is. It would also be nice if we reward ourselves in the moments we play well."
