Leeds United forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is bullish about the team’s chances of picking up points this week after a spirited display at Manchester City.
Daniel Farke’s side looked to be on course for a heavy loss when City surged into a two-goal lead at the Etihad Stadium. But Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha struck in the second half to level things up for the visitors.
In the end, the fightback was in vain, as Phil Foden struck late on to win it for City.
The loss was Leeds’ fourth in a row and they currently sit in the relegation zone after 13 games of the season. They now face two potentially challenging home matches against Chelsea and Liverpool on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.
Calvert-Lewin is not daunted by the prospect of those fixtures though, especially given how they rallied after a tough start at the Etihad Stadium.
“I think we can be proud of how we performed in the second half, but then frustrated at the same time to work so hard to get ourselves in such a good position,” he said, per [Tribal Football](https://www.tribalfootball.com/article/soccer-premier-league-leeds-goalscorers-nmecha-calvert-lewin-we-caused-man-city-massive-problems-5b439a39-4ba2-4e09-b260-0cd33dab8081). “2-0 down at the Etihad, it's a long way back, but we did it. It was just a finishing touch today. They've got good players that ultimately punish us in one single moment.
"Everyone was aligned, particularly in that second half. The Etihad's a difficult place to go for anybody. So the first half was tough, but to come out the second half, we responded in the right way and we followed the manager's instruction and we all worked together to get ourselves back in the game.
"We're all fully committed to a difficult week ahead. They're home games which we truly believe we can win and we believe that we've got the quality. I think we're close, we've been close in many games but ultimately you have to turn those nearly moments into our favour and that's what you have to do to stay in this division."
Calvert-Lewin was on the bench against City, but he was introduced at half time. Farke changed the team’s system to 5-3-2 and in tandem with Nmecha, the former Everton striker caused a lot of problems.
Calvert-Lewin now has two Premier League goals after joining Leeds on a free transfer in the summer.
