Man City 3 Leeds United 2: Lee Sobot's Video Verdict
A Leeds United attacker has made a Daniel Farke declaration with Whites admission after Saturday’s defeat at Manchester City.
Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha has praised boss Daniel Farke’s reading of the game at Manchester City with a Whites admission but “massive” positives.
Nmecha was handed his third consecutive Premier League start in Saturday’s clash at the Etihad as he again led the line in a 4-2-3-1 but without any joy in the first half.
A dominant City side led 2-0 at the break but Farke make big changes during the interval, bringing on another striker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and changing his system to three at the back with two upfront.
The alterations transformed United’s fortunes, Calvert-Lewin netting four minutes after the restart and then winning a penalty which Nmecha converted on the rebound after an initial Gianluigi Donnarumma save.
With fresh momentum, Farke’s side then pressed for a winner but City remained a huge threat themselves too and ultimately broke United’s hearts as Phil Foden bagged the fifth and final goal of the game in the 91st minute.
Speaking post match, Nmecha admitted the manner of the defeat was a difficult one to swallow but saluted Farke’s half-time changes and the “massive” problems that his team caused Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing side.
“I think in the second half we were really good. We caused them massive problems.
“I think the manager read the game well.
“We changed formation and we went two up top and I think that really gave us the freedom to, if we were in trouble, to go a bit longer. And that, after a while, created some spaces in between the lines, which was really important.
“When you concede like that, there's always little things and we're getting to that stage where we have to get away from the unlucky and look more at that little, little details to end up getting more points.”
