West Ham fans are in mourning after it was announced that club legend Billy Bonds had died at the age of 79.
The London side made the announcement on Sunday morning (November 30), sharing a statement from the ex-player and manager’s family. He died peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon (November 30).
The statement read: “We are heartbroken to announce that we lost our beloved Dad today. He was devoted to his family and was the most kind, loyal, selfless, and loving person.
“Dad loved West Ham United and its wonderful supporters with all his heart and treasured every moment of his time at the Club. He will always be in our hearts and eternally missed. We take comfort knowing that his legacy will live on forever.”

Tributes have poured in from fans who are heartbroken at the sad news. One fans said: “The legendary Billy a tremendous gentleman and a fabulous footballer, a big loss to the West Ham Family, Thoughts with Billy's family, Lionheart.”
Another added: “Absolutely heartbreaking news. One of the first players i ever saw live. Knew what it meant to be West Ham. Showed fight and talent every time he pulled on the shirt. This one hurts.”
As a result of the sad news, many fans will be hoping to take a moment of reflection ahead of kick-off as West Ham host Liverpool at London Stadium this afternoon. Kicking-off at 2.05pm, the match is still scheduled to take place - and the club has updated fans on whether a minute silence will take place.

West Ham said in its statement announcing Bonds’ death that a “period of appreciation” will take place before kick-off at London Stadium this afternoon.
This means that fans will be given the opportunity to remember the club legend, who has a stand named after him at London Stadium. This will take place ahead of kick-off.
It has also been confirmed that a “full tribute” will be arranged for the next home fixture. This will take place on Sunday, December 14 when West Ham host Aston Villa.
