Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of Chelsea vs Arsenal from the Premier League which kicks off with the visitors top and hoping a win can stretch their lead over Manchester City back to seven points and Chelsea striving for a first home victory over the Gunners since 2018 which would take them up to second, merely three points off the leaders.

Mikel Arteta, whose side have won seven and drawn two of their nine league matches since their sold defeat by Liverpool, has never lost as a manager at Stamford Bridge, a remarkable feat given how soundly Arsène Wenger’s teams were beaten during the fallow years post Invincibles when Arsenal had to pay for a new ground while Chelsea soared on Roman Abramovich’s Katastroika billions. In fact Thomas Tuchel is the only head coach to get one over Arteta back in 2021 at the Emirates when Romelu Lukaku and Reece James scored the goals in a 2-0 victory though Enzo Maresa’s team managed a draw last season at home when Pedro Neto equalised Gabriel Martinelli’s opener.

Leandro Trossard, Gabriel and Kai Havertz are all missing for Arsenal and there are rumours that William Saliba may also have picked up an injury in training though there is better news from Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus, both of who are ‘back on the grass’. Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo, Romeo Lavía and Mykhailo Mudryk are all long-term absentees for various well-known reasons but Cole Palmer, with some protection for his broken toe, is available for selection.

Having been dismissed by Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich as a set-piece team who are inferior to PSG, Arteta will be smiling if his side scores from one of Declan Rice’s deliveries again today. “I think the game they played against PSG was very similar when everything becomes man-to-man and the way they are with the full-backs, the way we did what we did in terms of rotation, they create a game that is a very low sequences of passes, so I know what he’s saying, so that’s fine,” Arteta said. “It’s part of the game.”
