The Utah Jazz are hosting the Houston Rockets for some matinee Sunday basketball. This will be the first of a back-to-back mini-series between the Rockets and Jazz at the Delta Center.
The Rockets roll into Salt Lake City with a record of 12-4, putting them third in the Western Conference Standings.
Houston’s trade for Kevin Durant has provided promising early dividends. Durant, who has missed the passed two games for personal reasons but is returning this afternoon, has averaged 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. While that scoring rate would mark a career-low for Durant, his ability to stretch the floor and provide a secondary scoring threat has opened the game for Houston’s offensive core, Alperen Sengun. The fifth-year Turkish center has averaged a career-high 22.0 points and 7.1 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 40.4% from three. Sengun, who made his first All-Star appearance last season, is on track to return again this year.
For Utah, this game marks the start of a difficult stretch of the season. 10 of Utah’s next 12 games are against teams over .500. For fans worried about Utah losing their draft pick this season, this stretch should help in quelling some fears.
