Forget Isak and Ekitike, Liverpool might have a new partnership they didn’t know they needed

Arne Slot made a few changes and some of them worked a treat.

The Reds really needed a result against West Ham and although the performance was not the best, they got the job done.

Slot made a few changes to his side to try and get them back on track, and one of the ones he did looks like it may have paid off.

Despite Alexander Isak getting his first Premier League goal for Liverpool, there were two other players who shone brighter than the rest.

And based on their performance, they have to start together again, with this perhaps a new partnership that they did not know they needed.

Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai have a great understanding

One of the bold changes Slot decided to make was to bench Mohamed Salah and start Dominik Szoboszlai on the right instead.

This also meant Florian Wirtz came into the team and played in his favoured number 10 position, and it is safe to say he excelled.

The German was the best player on the pitch by a mile and was unlucky not to get a goal or an assist, but what he did do was form a great bond with Szoboszlai.

Both were often seen making neat passes to one another, creating combinations that were too hard to stop, with this getting the Reds forward on multiple occasions.

The fact the pair of them work so hard too makes them perfect to play alongside each other, with their energy adding something that has been missing in recent weeks.

Szoboszlai has been the Reds’ best player so far this season, but Wirtz was certainly the best against West Ham, showing how as a duo, they could be unstoppable.

Mohamed Salah could be in trouble

Although Szoboszlai was not as impactful as he was in recent weeks, this is because others stepped up too, meaning he did not have to do it alone.

However, with that said, he still had a solid game and was much more impressive than Salah has been in previous games, suggesting the Egyptian has a lot to do if he is to regain his place.

Luckily for Salah, Liverpool have two more games this week, meaning he will likely get minutes due to rotation, but he may not be first choice anymore.

Szoboszlai also deserves to start every game and with Wirtz undroppable ahead of the next one, the winger might have to settle with starting on the bench once again.
