Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal in his fifth appearance in the competition for Liverpool, admitting his struggle after Sunday’s 2-0 win at West Ham.
While a first league goal within five games of joining a new club may not seem too worrying a record, for £125 million striker Isak it clearly has been.
Struggling for fitness and form since his British record move from Newcastle, the Swede has so far failed to live up to his price tag.
But having opened the scoring in a vital 2-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, Isak is now hoping he will turn a corner in terms of goalscoring.
“I’m aware that it’s been a long time coming and I’ve been trying to get back to my best form,” he told Sky Sports after the game.
“I’m still on the way, but I’m happy to have that goal.”
Isak added: “Of course the best feeling today is that we win the game. That’s the best way to get a good spirit within the group and that’s helpful for the individual as well.
“But yeah of course, I’m a striker, so scoring goals will always help me.”

Though clearly improved on their three consecutive defeats to Man City, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven, Liverpool were still far from their fluent best in east London.
However, as he continued his post-match interview, Isak outlined the value in a hard-fought win and urged his teammates to “be humble.”
“When you’re going through tough times as a team it’s about fighting your way through to a victory,” he explained.
“Which it was today, it wasn’t always beautiful but we knew we had to get a goal and defend our goal with our lives.

“I think the boys did really well.
“We have to use this win in a good way, but also be humble. Because we’ve had a tough time, one win doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re back.
“We have to stay focused and keep working hard to keep this momentum.”
