The Golden State Warriors will have an added reinforcement coming off the bench on Tuesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. According to a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Warriors will finally re-sign Seth Curry to a pro-rated one-year minimum salary deal on Monday. The move will officially make the Curry brothers regular-season teammates for the first time in the duos career. The Dubs waived Seth at the end of the preseason to allow his pro-rated salary to decline to give them more space below the second apron hard cap.
Last season, Curry appeared in 68 games (14 starts) and averaged 6.5 points. 1.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.4 steals in 15.6 minutes per game with the Charlotte Hornets. He led the league with a 45.6% three-point percentage. Despite his shooting prowess, Curry has always had limited other impactful NBA skills, and at 35, his defensive limitations left him with few potential fits as a free agent.
At the moment, the younger Curry does not project to have a prominent role on the Warriors depth chart. He’s an undersized guard behind Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, and Will Richard while both Steph Curry and De’Anthony Melton are expected back from injuries soon. However, that doesn’t mean Seth has no chance at a larger role.
Hield’s early-season struggles in particular are worth watching closely. Hield was an excellent role player with the Warriors down the stretch last season, but he has struggled mightily on both ends of the floor so far this year. Moreover, he is also making about $9.2 million this season with only $3 million guaranteed in 2026-27. In other words, Hield’s contract is very tradeable. If general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. wants to shake things up, he could move Hield to sure up another area on the roster and trust that Curry’s shooting can fill the void.
In the meantime, Curry will hopefully provide some offensive firepower in spot minutes for a team desperately searching for an offensive spark. When his brother returns to the floor, the duo should be able to wreak plenty of havoc from the perimeter.
