Fans on X (formerly Twitter) have praised Joe Gomez for his performance during [Liverpool](https://www.sportskeeda.com/team/liverpool/news)'s win over West Ham United. The Englishman put on a decent shift as the Reds returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-0 victory over the Hammers at the London Stadium on Sunday, November 30.

Arne Slot's side entered the match desperate for a positive result following three consecutive defeats across competitions and nine losses in their last 12 outings. The defending league champions were kept mute by David Moyes' side in the first half, defending resolutely to keep the scoreline goalless.

However, the deadlock was broken 15 minutes after the restart. Cody Gakpo set up Alexander Isak in the box, and the Swede fired home into the bottom right corner for his first Premier League goal with the Reds.

West Ham were down to 10 men in the 86th minute after Lucas Paqueta received two yellow cards within a minute. The Brazilian was initially booked for dissent before getting his marching orders for excessive remonstration at the center referee, Darren England.

Liverpool made the numerical advantage count as Gakpo delivered the icing on the cake with a late goal (90+2') off a Gomez assist. Aside from his goal contribution on the day, fans were pleased with Gomez's overall performance.

The 28-year-old was handed his first league start of the season, and he produced a solid shift against the Hammers. In addition to his assist, he recorded a block, two clearances, three interceptions, three recoveries, and was not dribbled past in 90 minutes on the pitch.

Gomez has made only seven appearances across competitions this season. However, with Conor Bradly out with a muscle injury, he has the chance to win over the manager and cement a starting role.

Arne Slot makes big call as Liverpool return to winning ways

------------------------------------------------------------

With pressure mounting on his shoulders after three losses on the bounce, Liverpool boss Arne Slot was forced to drop star forward [Mohamed Salah](https://www.sportskeeda.com/player/mohamed-salah/news) to the bench against West Ham United.

The Reds found themselves in the bottom half of the league table after picking up just two wins from their last eight league matches. A 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League worsened matters, forcing the Slot to tinker with his attack line against the Hammers.

With Salah dropped to the bench, Alexander Isak led the frontline, supported by the trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and Florian Wirtz. Surprisingly, the Egyptian was not called into action, but the Reds managed to secure maximum points in his absence.

Liverpool will next be in action on Wednesday, December 3, when they host Sunderland at Anfield in the Premier League.
