‘He spoke to me’ - Newcastle United star reveals secret chat with Chelsea mentor

Everton 1-4 Newcastle United - Jordan Cronin & Liam Kennedy react

Tino Livramento has been a revelation since returning to the Newcastle United line-up.

Tino Livramento has revealed that Thomas Tuchel reached out to him during his recent injury struggles.

Newcastle United supporters feared the worst when the defender suffered a knee injury against Arsenal in September. Livramento previously spent 13 months on the sidelines with an ACL tear earlier in his career.

Fortunately, the 23-year-old only spent eight weeks on the treatment table. It is no surprise that Livramento’s return has coincided with consecutive Premier League wins - and Newcastle’s first on the road this season.

Tino Livramento reveals Thomas Tuchel chat

Livramento has opened up about how England manager Tuchel - his former boss at Chelsea - contacted him when he got injured. The full-back said: “He spoke to me when I first got injured. Obviously, I've worked a bit with him at Chelsea and we have a good relationship.

“Also, I spoke a bit with Anthony Barry. They're people who keep in touch with me and I really do appreciate that. It's an easy thing to not talk to someone when they're out and they're not playing. I think that shows the people that both of them are.”

Tino Livramento on World Cup dream

On his potential World Cup hopes, Livramento insisted his focus is on playing well for Newcastle. He added: “I just need to focus on getting back and playing as much as I can.

“You only get called up for England if you’re playing well at club level. That’s what I want to do. Play as much as I can in a Newcastle shirt.”

A week ago, when asked about whether he has discussed a contract extension with new sporting director Ross Wilson, Livramento told NewcastleWorld: “That's nothing that I'm in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent. For me, I've been out for seven weeks.

“I've been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team. I'm very happy with how I've played (against Man City). That's my focus, staying where I'm at now. That's always been my focus. Helping the team as much as I can.”
