A player who used to parade the Anfield pitch, now enjoys football on a smaller scale.
Football careers can take many paths, with many ups and downs along the way.
Some are lucky enough to make it to the top, whilst others may taste those heights momentarily, but it may not be for a long period of time.
One thing is for sure though, footballers play for the love of the game, and if that mean dropping down from the Premier League to the sixth tier of English football then so be it.
That is exactly what Andy Carroll chose to do this summer.
Andy Carroll played 44 times for the Reds and scored six goals between 2011 and 2013, winning the League Cup in 2012.
The former Liverpool No.9 signed for Dagenham and Redbridge this summer, in a move that shocked many.
Carroll scored a hat-trick for the National League South side in their most recent game against AFC Totton.
Completing the feat within 31 minutes of the game, it has taken his tally for the season up to six goals in ten games.
Reflecting on his stellar performance post-match, Carroll said: “Thanks for the support today, buzzing with my hat-trick and the three points. What a win. Let’s keep going.”
With Saturday’s win, the club now climb up to 12th place in the table.
In an interview, he revealed why he chose to sign for National League side.
He said: “I really enjoyed my time in Bordeaux, but it’s time for me to get settled with my family. I didn’t want to finish playing football, and I’m really excited to get involved in the leadership side and be a player. I’ve got experience in seeing how clubs are run, of all levels. I think I can add value.”
“I was getting offers from clubs in France, Italy and Spain, but I wanted to come home. I could sign for a top club, but me and the managers might not see eye to eye, so I just want to be somewhere I’m happy.”
Andy Carroll is a part-owner of Dagenham and Redbridge. He acquired a minority ownership stake when he joined as a player this summer.
