Manchester City have the chance to bring in some new signings when the January transfer window opens for business

Manchester City beat Leeds United 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Phil Foden scored twice against the Whites, whilst Josko Gvardiol also got himself on the scoresheet. Pep Guardiola’s side are chasing down Arsenal at the summit.

The North West outfit are back in action on Tuesday night with an away trip to Craven Cottage to play Fulham as they look to build some momentum over the festive period. Their upcoming opponents won 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur last time out. Guardiola’s men then play Sunderland at home at the weekend.

Manchester City eye Manchester United target Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest

According to the Daily Mail, City are ‘ready’ to move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United. The England international, who has six caps to his name, is a wanted man at the moment. He is under contract at the City Ground until June 2029.

Anderson, 23, has made 58 appearances for the Reds in all competitions to date, 16 of which have come this season, and he has scored three goals. He rose up through the academy at Newcastle United and was a regular for the Toon Army at various different youth levels as a youngster. The Whitley Bay-born man was loaned out to Bristol Rovers in the Football League back in 2022 to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.

He then broke into the Magpies’ first-team and went on to play 55 matches under the guidance of Eddie Howe. However, he was then sold on to top flight rivals Nottingham Forest. He hasn’t looked back since and they could now face a real battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere.

Would would Elliot Anderson offer to Manchester City?

City could see Anderson as someone to bolster their midfield department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park. In addition, he would give them something different to what they already have at their disposal.

He will be looking to get into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup next summer in USA, Canada and Mexico. After landing him for Nottingham Forest, their former chief football officer Ross Wilson, who is now at Newcastle, said at the time: “We are all delighted to welcome Elliot to Nottingham Forest and pleased that he has chosen to continue to develop his talent with us in the Premier League.

"We are sure he will thrive in a Forest shirt, as other players in his age profile have done. As soon as the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited to make happen.”

Anderson is a player who is still young and has potential to get better over the next few years. He is someone who would flourish under Guardiola and would give City more energy and enthusiasm in the middle of the park. Liverpool and United have also been mentioned as suitors though so there will be competition.
