Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounmpo confirms he has sights set on 1 NBA record

The Milwaukee Bucks got back to their winning ways, soundly defeating the Brooklyn Nets 116-99 on Saturday night. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Milwaukee and improved their record to 9-12 on the season. Brooklyn, meanwhile, fell to 3-16.

Despite the 17-point differential, the game was never even that close for most of the night. The Nets were able to cut the deficit during garbage time against the Bucks’ bench.

Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo only played 19 minutes in the contest, but still scored 29 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

During Milwaukee’s blowout of Brooklyn, Giannis scored his 21,000th career point. He became the sixth-youngest player in NBA history to achieve that mark.

After the game, though, Giannis admitted that he has his sights set much higher: on the all-time scoring record:

“I think to get to the top of the scoring list is not six, seven, eight years, I think it’s — in my opinion — four years away. Four, five years away. I think I’m going to be 35 years old sitting in this chair having a discussion of I am the top [of the all-time scoring list]. I would have talked that into existence. And not just talked it into existence, because I believe I’m going to do it. It’s something that I want to do. But that’s too far away. Four, five years from now I might have four other kids. You know, my wife might have left me, who knows four, five years from now.”

LeBron James is currently the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 42,250 points (and counting). If Giannis is going to catch him in 5-6 years, he would have to double his career output up to this point.

This, of course, would mean he would be putting up otherworldly numbers never seen before for the next 5-6 seasons.

However, if he does play long enough and keeps on producing like he has, he could eventually get there by the end of his career.
