"Only Arsenal and Coventry have lost less games than us in the whole of England"

GRAHAM Alexander insists City never revealed any frustration about their six-game win drought.

Saturday’s victory over Exeter was their first in the league for two months to stay on the heels of leaders Cardiff in third.

City last beat Blackpool at the end of September and had picked up five draws since. But Alexander did not sense any anxiety creeping in with the players.

“I didn’t see any of that in training,” he said. “The attitude has been brilliant and there’s not been an element of frustration.

“It’s hard to stay unbeaten. There are only Arsenal and Coventry that have lost less games than us in the whole of England.

“That’s not bad. I prefer to see it that way because it keeps a positive spin on it.

“It shows that we are hard to beat and then it’s about whether we have the quality to score more than the opponent. I think we’ve shown that numerous times.

“If you look at the calibre of teams we’ve drawn against and the venues, we’ll look back on those at the end of the season as really important points.

“We haven’t been winning the games we would hope to have. But if you put into perspective and look at the teams we’ve played.

“I’ve never seen anything negative in training apart from, ‘what can we do to turn these draws into wins?’ It’s great as a coach to see that from your group of players.”

Joe Wright popped up with the decisive goal – his second of the season – converting a cross from Max Power to settle a tight game.

Alexander added: “We’ve talked about defenders scoring from set-pieces. I think we’ve got targets in there but they’ve got to commit to it and make the right runs.

“It was a great cross from Max and Joe’s got across his man. That’s how fine the margins are for winning games sometimes.”

Alex Pattison was subbed at half-time for Will Swan as City threw on a second striker. But Swan was also replaced in the closing stages by Jenson Metcalfe.

“That was purely tactical,” said the City boss. “The game changes so many times and then it becomes like a set-piece game.

“Swanny’s press is really good but when they are just missing it out and going back to front you need extra bodies for the second ball. It was just that.

“It’s not nice to come on and then be taken off and that’s why I spoke to Swanny.

“With Patto (Alex Pattison) coming off at half-time as well, the players need to understand the game swings and we’ve got a good squad to be able to use them all to do whatever it takes to win.

“They are two good lads and they’ll be fine.”

Bobby Pointon’s fifth booking of the season rules him out of City’s trip to Plymouth on Saturday.
