‘Sky is the limit’ for Lewis Miley as Joelinton stunned by Newcastle United teammate

Everton 1-4 Newcastle United: Joe Buck reaction

Newcastle United latest news: Joelinton was very impressed with Lewis Miley’s performance v Everton on Saturday evening.

Newcastle United ensured their first trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium was a memorable one as they put four past Everton to record their first win away from home in the Premier League this season.

Two headers from Malick Thiaw were supported by strikes from Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade as Eddie Howe’s side emerged comfortable winners on Merseyside. Whilst the inclusion of Aaron Ramsdale ahead of Nick Pope created headlines pre-match, Howe’s decision to pick Lewis Miley, ahead of the almost ever-present Sandro Tonali, also raised a few eyebrows.

Having burst onto the scene two years ago, there is a lot of hope that Miley can solidify himself as a regular under Howe and that he can take his chances when afforded the opportunity by his manager. Well, the teenager certainly did as much as he could on Saturday to impress Howe with an assist inside 60 seconds, a crucial goal to double their lead and a general calmness and composure in his play befitting a man ten years his senior.

Miley’s performance caught the attention of many fans, with social media ablaze with praise for his display. Joelinton, the man who flanked Miley at the Hill Dickinson Stadium was also impressed by the teenager’s showing.

“Lewis is a great player, and also a great guy,” Joelinton told reporters post-match. “Every time he steps on to the pitch he shows his qualities.

"He is a very mature young player with a lot of potential. So the sky is the limit for him.

"I am very happy for him. He scored and it was also a great performance from him."

Joelinton analyses Everton win

Defeating the Toffees was not only important for Newcastle United in shaking off their long winless run away from home, but also in defeating a side that had become somewhat of a bogey team for them in recent years. Few heading to the docks on Saturday night expected the Magpies to wipe the floor with their hosts in the manner they did, particularly after both teams’ contrasting fortunes at Old Trafford and Stade Velodrome earlier this week.

However, by the time Craig Pawson blew his whistle to signal the break, Everton had been thoroughly outplayed and the three points were already heading back to Tyneside.

“It was a really good victory for us, it is a difficult place to come,” Joelinton added. “Everton had been in form, but we played really well with the ball, without the ball.

"We deserved to win. When we had the ball we were calm and we created a lot of chances.

"And we took them. In the last few games we have been forced to create more to score just one and have not been taking them.

"Everton was different, we took them. It was very important that we got the first win away from home in the Premier League of the season.

"That's back to back wins now. And we are back at home on Tuesday against Spurs and we are looking for another big performance."
