Andrey Santos handed big chance to become starter at Chelsea

The chance is now there for some regular appearances for Andrey Santos, who has had to be patient in waiting for his chance since becoming a member of the first team squad.

The Brazil international has made just two Premier League starts for the club, although Santos was Man of the Match in his last league appearance against Burnley.

The youngster has been unfortunate in the fact that he is competing for minutes with Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, but now this is the best chance he has had to prove his worth to Maresca.

Romeo Lavia is not around to bring competition either due to an injury suffered against Qarabag, so now is the time for Santos to install himself as a genuine starting option for the remainder of the season.

Caicedo will miss games against Leeds United, Bournemouth and Everton, however will be able to feature in the Champions League game against Atalanta.

On paper, the games could certainly be worse for the Ecuadorian to miss. Nevertheless, they are also the kind of game which Chelsea are prone to slipping up in, especially after good performances against Barcelona and Arsenal.

Expect Santos to start alongside Fernandez in the middle at Elland Road, a game which they can expect to be in control of.

After featuring for just 655 minutes so far this season, now the opportunity has arisen for Santos to disrupt the normality of the Caicedo and Fernandez midfield for the rest of the campaign.
