Liverpool eyeing one of "best players in the Premier League" in deal that would rock football

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Everton star Iliman Ndiaye next summer, in what would be a hugely controversial piece of transfer business.

The Reds got back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, picking up a vital 2-0 victory away to West Ham, giving the under-pressure Arne Slot some leeway in the process.

There is still clearly a huge amount of work for Liverpool to do, with this week’s clashes with Sunderland and Leeds United telling us a lot more about the Premier League champions, but it is a step in the right direction.

While Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo scored on Sunday, and Florian Wirtz shone, the Reds’ attack has still toiled this season, and fresh blood will need to be added in 2026, especially given Mohamed Salah’s form and age.

According to journalist Santi Aouna on X, Liverpool are eyeing a stunning move for Everton winger Ndiaye, with the Merseysiders joined by Manchester City and Tottenham in the race to snap him up:

“Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham have added Illiman Ndiaye to their shortlist for the summer. The 25 y/o winger from Everton Initial talks have taken place with his agents.”

Could Ndiaye to Liverpool actually happen?

This is a transfer that would rock football, given the rivalry that exists between Liverpool and Everton, and the fact that players so rarely move directly between the two clubs.

Ndiaye is also arguably the Blues’ best player, being lauded as “one of the best players in the Premier League” by Jamie O’Hara, as well as being praised by David Moyes after his performance against City earlier this season: “I thought Ili’s performance in the first half was outstanding. I thought he was the standout player at that time in the game.”

In reality, it seems highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to sign the Senegalese, with Everton surely not allowing him to join their biggest rivals, and a move elsewhere more on the cards in 2026.

That said, if a move did suddenly materialise, Ndiaye could be a fantastic successor to Salah, excelling on the right flank and bagging four goals in the Premier League so far this season.
