“We’ll see” – Manchester City star coy when asked about future

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has refused to give a clear answer on his future, with his contract due to expire in the summer.

Noticias Ao Minuto cover the midfielder today. He made an appearance on DAZN in Portugal on Friday to discuss various topics, including his future at Manchester City.

The midfielder is in his final year of his deal at the Etihad. His contract expires in 2026, meaning he is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs around Europe from January 1st.

Several reports have already made it clear there’s interest. Indeed, there is a desire in Serie A to repeat the move that took Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli in the summer. He joined them on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

No talks about an extension with Manchester City have happened as yet, and Silva was unequivocal when asked about the matter.

“This is my last year of contract. We’ll see what happens,” he said.

“But regardless, it’s always an honour. And after so many years, and being one of the oldest players, the time has come to pass on all this experience and information to help the younger players.

“To be as prepared as possible as quickly as possible to be able to fight for important things, which is what is required at this club.”

For now, the focus is on getting Manchester City back to the top of the Premier League after a disappointing campaign last year.

Silva has been a key part of a side that has often dominated under Pep Guardiola. His time at the Etihad so far has seen them win 16 titles in total. That includes six Premier League titles, three Community Shields, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League.

Now he’s one of the older heads in the squad, and has a message for the next generation coming into the picture.

“At this club, the objective is always simple, it’s always very clear,” he added.

“If players want to be part of this club, they have to be prepared to fight for titles. Whether it’s a younger generation, an older generation, more or less prepared, more or less adapted.

“At Manchester City, you have to fight for titles. And if we’re not prepared to fight for titles, the club will again make the decisions it has to make. Therefore, this year we have to fight for all competitions, knowing that we have very strong rivals ahead.”
