Former Senegal defender Ferdinand Coly has asked Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson to finish this season at Bayern Munich.
Africa Foot spoke to Coly to discuss the striker’s situation and where he could play next season.
Enzo Maresca left the 24-year-old out of his core plans at Chelsea and this saw him join Bayern Munich on loan.
The Chelsea owned player has managed four goals and one assist from 14 games for the Bundesliga winners.
Harry Kane is first-choice striker for Vincent Kompany. The Senegal international also has fierce competition in other attacking positions at the Bavarian club.
Africa Foot asked Coly whether it was a wise for his compatriot to join the German champions considering the competition.
“You don’t turn down Bayern Munich. Yes, he knew he’d likely have a super-sub role, but you can only improve when you play in a squad of such quality. It’s up to him to do everything he can to seize his opportunity. Let’s not forget the circumstances he found himself in at Chelsea,” he said.
“When he arrived at Bayern, he wasn’t match-fit; his preseason had been completely disrupted. So, he needed time to get back to his best.”
Chelsea player urged to stay where he is
Recent claims in the UK had mentioned Everton are showing interest in him for the winter market. On November 11th, Bild stated the frontman has no plans to leave Bayern Munich in January.
The former Birmingham City fullback has urged Jackson to forget about changing clubs in the next window.
“I did read that clubs, particularly in England and Spain, are interested in him. This proves he remains highly regarded,'” Coly explained.
“That said, I’m not convinced that leaving this winter would be a good solution. It would mean adapting to a new squad, a new coach, and perhaps a new country.”
Bayern Munich have to pay Chelsea €65m if Jackson plays a certain number of matches this season. Last week, SportBild reported they don’t intend to make his stay permanent.
Coly was asked whether this is a negative sign. He added: “That’s indeed the information we have. €65m is a significant sum. As of now, Bayern seems to consider exercising this purchase option a low priority. I don’t know if this will change depending on the club’s performance.
“Personally, I think it would be more beneficial for Jackson to finish the season at Bayern and then find another club, if the Germans don’t exercise this option and if Chelsea doesn’t want to keep him.
“Because the World Cup is approaching, and changing clubs during the winter transfer window is a double-edged sword. He’ll have to discuss it with his agent.”
