Alan Myers states the four signings Everton simply have to make this January transfer window

Everton have been making tentative plans for the rapidly approaching January transfer window in recent weeks.

David Moyes has sent scouts to watch multiple targets this season, with Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott believed to be one option.

How would you rate Everton’s 2025/26 season so far?

Everton have been told it’d take bids of around £31m to sign Parrott this winter, so it would require a pretty substantial outlay of cash.

There are other positions away from the frontline which need addressing, too, and now Alan Myers has just stated the four signings which Everton must look to make.

Alan Myers reckons Everton need to address three positions in January

Writing in his exclusive Everton News column, Myers explained that Moyes must make four new signings this winter, with three key positions that need strengthening.

“Signings are definitely a starting point,” the journalist wrote.

“Everton need a full-back, possibly two, they need a holding midfielder, Idrissa Gana Gueye’s absence was highlighted in stark contrast by the ease the Newcastle midfield and strikers negotiated the Everton defence.

“And, of course the seemingly old age problem of the lack of goal threat remains. This for me is the priority, the club cannot afford to go into the second half of the season without more firepower, it just simply isn’t an option, if they do they risk another season of struggle in my opinion.”

Regarding a full-back, it has been reported that Everton are exploring a deal to sign Antonee Robinson from Fulham.

Robinson, who is valued at around £25m, was one of the best left-backs in the Premier League last season, so he’d be an interesting option.

He’d be an upgrade on Mykolenko…

Everton can save funds on a midfielder by recalling Harrison Armstrong

As Myers noted, the Toffees do need a more defensive-minded midfield player with Gueye set to miss up to six weeks of the season due to suspension and then subsequently AFCON.

However, instead of forking out in excess of £20m on one in January, Moyes should just recall Harrison Armstrong from Preston North End.

Speaking in his pre-match Newcastle press conference, the Scotsman did admit that he’s considering bringing Armstrong back to Finch Farm.

“I’m really happy with how Harrison is doing. He’s coming on great. I think Preston would be hugely disappointed if we took him back.

“He’s also got an injury and has been out for the last few games. Hopefully, he is due back very shortly. We’ll consider it in January, but at the moment, him getting the games at the age he is at and where he is performing… Preston will hopefully have a good chance at making the play-offs.”

The 18-year-old has already proven that he’s one of the best midfielders in the Championship, so the next natural step in his development is playing in the Premier League with Everton.
