Manchester City youngster wanted by Premier League club in January window

Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri is attracting interest from clubs in England and Spain.

That’s according to journalist Hugo Balassone, and El Intransigente have relayed updates shared by him.

Manchester City let the attacking midfielder join Bayer Leverkusen on loan in August. The move hasn’t gone well and he’s been limited to 259 minutes from nine matches.

There’s already been claims of Pep Guardiola’s side wanting to recall the 19-year-old in the winter market. The Argentine’s desire is to return to River Plate but Manchester City want him to go out on loan to another European club.

At the weekend, Infobae reported Echeverri is still pushing for a move back to River Plate, without wanting to upset Manchester City.

Balassone now backs up the Argentine club’s interest and reveals interest from elsewhere.

“Two Spanish teams and one Premier League team are interested in Echeverri. And City haven’t ruled out bringing him back. But River has taken the lead and negotiations are underway,” he said.

“What his agent will seek when he travels to Germany is to terminate his loan at Bayer. The player wants to play. It doesn’t depend on just one situation, but on several. But River has made progress, negotiations are underway. It also depends on what City wants to do.”

Still hope Manchester City allow Argentina return

The journalist hasn’t revealed the details of the two Spanish clubs or the Premier League side.

Another journalist, Juan Cortese, seems optimistic the Manchester City player will move in January.

“Echeverri’s return [to River Plate] is on the table. I don’t see it as far-fetched. There’s a good chance Echeverri will come back; they’re excited about this possibility,” Cortese explained.
