David Moyes claimed Newcastle United are possibly the ‘most powerful’ team in the Premier League following Saturday’s 4-1 win at Everton.

The Magpies head into the game on the back of six straight home wins in all competitions and having beaten Manchester City and Everton in their previous two league matches.

Saturday’s 4-1 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium was Newcastle’s first Premier League away win since April as Malick Thiaw scored either side of first half goals from Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade.

After the match, Everton head coach David Moyes branded Newcastle as the ‘most powerful’ team in the Premier League.

David Moyes praises NUFC

“We beat Newcastle at St James' Park when they were going for the Champions League, so we can go and beat them,” said the Everton head coach. “But tonight they were far too powerful for us. Maybe the strongest, maybe the most powerful team in the Premier League.

“Maybe Arsenal might sway them on that. Strong team, big, every player big, physical, hard to play against.”

The Arsenal comparison will come as a compliment given Mikel Arteta’s side are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table while Newcastle are 13th on 18 points.

Eddie Howe responds to David Moyes’ claim

Howe has managed to get a response from his side following consecutive 3-1 league defeats at West Ham United and Brentford before the November international break.

“The big thing is focusing from West Ham and Brentford that we enter the pitch and we're able to physically give our best and that's probably where I stand right now,” Howe said.

“Whatever team I pick, I want them physically to execute it. Because I think if they can do that, then technically and tactically I think we'll be okay.”

When Moyes’ comments were put to Howe, the Newcastle poss responded: “It links to my previous answer really. When we're very good in that respect, I think we're very difficult to play against.

“I think we've executed a couple of games this year where we haven't been that team and then we're nowhere near as effective. So, with the game schedule we have, fresh players on the pitch is one thing, but obviously then you have to execute the plan and physically the players this year are going to have to dig deep because there's a lot of games. But that was a big step forward against Everton.”

Newcastle now head into a busy festive fixture schedule with Burnley at the weekend following the Spurs match. Then there’s a Champions League trip to Bayer Leverkusen next week before the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in less than a fortnight’s time.
