Everton boss David Moyes says he will debate whether to recall Harrison Armstrong in January but hopes to see the midfielder see out his season-long loan at Preston.

The former Derby County midfielder has been in impressive form for Paul Heckingbottom's side this season with the Lilywhites currently nestled in the top six.

Preston managed to secure Armstrong's signature in the summer despite significant interest from Derby who were keen on taking him on loan for a second time.

But the club only had one loan spot available at the time and felt they needed a winger rather than another midfielder so moved for Ben Brereton Diaz.

Armstrong has once again proven that he has a big career ahead of him with Everton excited by his potential. And asked about the prospect of bringing Armstrong back to play in the Premier League, Moyes hopes he can stay put.

"I'm really happy with how Harrison is doing," said Moyes. "He's coming on great. I think Preston would be hugely disappointed if we took him back.

"But he's also got an injury at the moment as well. He's been out for the last few games with an injury at Preston but hopefully, he's due back very shortly.

"We'll consider it in January. But I think at the moment, him getting the games at the age he's at and where he's performing... Preston, hopefully, will have a really good chance of making the play-offs and I think for him it's a good level to be playing at."

Armstrong was a huge hit at Derby where he played a key role in their successful fight against relegation last season.

He scored a terrific goal in a 3-2 win at Plymouth and produced a series of excellent performances to help the club stay up.

Armstrong said he was open to returning to Derby again after enjoying his time at Pride Park, but he went on to feature heavily in Everton's pre-season campaign.

The Toffees eventually decided to loan him out once again and Preston secured his signing.
