David Moyes admits he needs to change one unwanted Everton record this week vs Bournemouth

Everton boss David Moyes will take his squad down to Bournemouth on Tuesday hoping to turn their crushing loss to Newcastle United on its head.

Everton had won their previous two Premier League fixtures without conceding, downing Fulham and Manchester United either side of the international break – the latter coming with 10 men after a bizarre red card for Idrissa Gana Gueye.

However, Newcastle disposed easily of the Toffees, who came unstuck against the Magpies at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a dismal 4-1 defeat to Eddie Howe’s side.

And with Bournemouth doing well this season, David Moyes has another habit to break – with Everton failing to win at the Vitality Stadium in the league throughout their entire history.

David Moyes on Everton’s Premier League record vs Bournemouth

Everton, to put it bluntly, have been nothing short of toothless in their trips to the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League.

An overall record of eight games away to the Cherries in the Premier League have resulted in two draws and six losses, with their most recent being a 1-0 loss in January – which ended up being Sean Dyche’s last game in charge before he was sacked.

And Moyes made reference to that record in his pre-match press conference on Monday. The Scot said: “Everton don’t have a great record at Bournemouth so that is something we have to go there and change.

Some interesting takeaways from Moyes’ presser…

“We have said that about other stadiums and grounds so we will try and make sure we do it.

“It’s probably one of the smallest Premier League grounds. But Bournemouth and the manager are doing an exceptional job with what they have available to them.”

Everton’s 3-3 draw in 2015 – just over 10 years ago to the day – came despite boasting a 2-0 lead, and they did the same in 2018 to draw 2-2. Since then, they’ve lost every time they’ve travelled to the south coast stadium.

Everton’s last win at Bournemouth almost won them their first trophy in over 20 years

You would have to go back almost 10 years to the day since Everton’s last win on the south coast at AFC Bournemouth – and even then, it wasn’t in the Premier League.

A 2-0 win in the FA Cup fifth round in February 2016 came via second half goals from Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, pushing the Toffees into the quarter-finals of the competition as they looked for their first piece of silverware in 21 years.

What a mental day…

That was followed by a home clash against Chelsea in the quarter-finals, where a late Lukaku brace downed the Blues on Merseyside, setting up a semi-final clash with Manchester United at Wembley.

However, despite a missed penalty, Everton were unable to capitalise at 1-1 against the Red Devils before Anthony Martial stuck the dagger in with a stoppage-time winner.

Everton have yet to qualify for the semi-finals of any competition since, and that remains the closest they’ve been to a final since 2009, where they lost in the final against Chelsea at Wembley.
